Some questions and answers about Swift Track

Question: Do I need a mason to install glass blocks, using Swift Track?
Answer: No, Swift Track was designed to give the average person the ability not only to install Glass blocks easier, faster and at substantial cost savings. Another plus is that the do-it-yourselfer can now achieve Professional results.

Question: Can glass blocks support a load-bearing wall?
Answer: Absolutely not!! Glass blocks are not for structural use, PERIOD...

Question: Can "Swift Track" be installed in an exterior application?
Answer: Yes, but the following precautions must be addressed.
I- When applying the silicone, you must make sure that the bond between Swift Track and the glass blocks are without voids. Starting from the first channel, apply a reasonable amount of silicone in the track. It is better for some sealant to ooze out, rather then not applying enough in the first place. When it fully cures, it is a simple removal process. With a utility knife or razor, simply slice and peel the excess off. **Always remember, when installing lighting, keep the sealant from flowing into the two channels, located on both sides of the center groove. If for some reason sealant does penetrate these channels, run a flexible piece of tubing through to clear any obstructions.

Question: Can ‘Swift Track" be used for a shower application?
Answer: Yes, but you must follow the same installation procedures as an exterior application.

Question: Using "Swift Track" can I light a glass block project?
Answer: Actually, "Swift Track" is the only patented system, which specifically addresses this
question as part of the patent claims. In the profile design, the inventor wanted just a bit more than an installation system. The two channels on both sides of the center groves were designed to act as chases for lighting, (Fiber Optics, Rope, Electro luminescent tape even extruded rods, which can also be illuminated). ** When installing fiber optics, always drill through the opposite side at least 1/2" into the jam. This will cut down drastically, if not totally eliminate a problem known as "Hot Spots". Coating or installing mirrors on the ends may also correct this problem.

Question: What, if anything else can these two channels be used for?
Answer: For one thing you can run telecommunication or data lines. Another use is installing
acrylic rods, for more structural applications. Also a clear hollow rod, installed in the top row, could act as a water chase for a water fall application. Most of the previously mentioned applications can be installed either during construction or any time after your glass block project. Is completed. Anything close to 1/2" O.D. must be installed during construction. A good rule of thumb is to CHECK FIRST.. .

Question: How do you cut the "Swift Track" System?

Answer: A triple-chip, laminate blade is highly recommended.. . This will dramatically reduce the chance of chipping at the ends. Cutting too slow will cause white burs, this is a result of the polymer melting. Cutting too fast accounts for most of the chipping problems. Just maintain a smooth and steady downward pressure. ** Always remember, measure twice, cut once.

Question: What is the most accurate location to measure, before cutting your vertical pieces?

Answer: Place a piece of Swift Track underneath and on top of the glass block being used. Now measure in the center between the two pieces. Not in the groove, but on the top of the groove. Cut one piece and see how if fits. Adjust if necessary! If no adjustment is needed, make absolutely sure all the remanding pieces are cut exactly the same. Any deviation will result in bowing the horizontal runs. ** Different glass block manufacturers have what seems to be a different size blocks. By different size, I referring to US measurements and foreign or metric measurements. Nothing seems to be standard throughout this industry. Different lot numbers, different designs, even temperature changes will cause slight size variations.

Question: Can you do a radius or curve wall, using "Swift Track"?
Answer: Not presently! A radius connector is being designed, along with a new vertical extrusion.
We hope to have these available for the public in the near future.

Question: Will ‘Swift Track" work with glass blocks other then Pittsburgh Cornings?
Answer: It was designed to work with any companies glass block, BUT like mentioned earlier the
tolerances on the blocks and the "Swift Track" extrusion could vary just enough to create a problem. Check first before you order all your material.
